Biography

I first started flying sport kites in August of 1990... Eating lunch at the Marina Green in San Francisco, I saw someone flying a full-size Team Hawaiian and eventually got up the nerve to go ask some questions.

Anyway, after a bit of conversation he ended up handing the kite over to me... The winds were blowing at 15-20mph, and weighing a whopping 90 lbs at the time, I went skiing down the field on my rear end!

Needless to say, I was hooked... I briefly stopped by the last kite festival ever held on the Marina Green, and then went to the 1990 AKA Grand Nationals in Seaside Oregon as a non-registered visitor... It was here that I saw sport kite ballet for the first time, and was introduced to Scott Aughenbaugh and Miguel Rodriguez who fueled my interest with their dynamic and passionate flying styles.

Spending the next four years flying nearly every day at the Berkeley Marina with some of the best in the country, I learned pretty quickly in all wind ranges from 0-20 mph... With this experience, and the inspiration I gained from watching some of the "old pros", I was well on my way.

Since then, I've flown in over 12 countries, performed in front of audiences of 100,000+ and seen all kinds of things during my travels... What still gets me going is the look on someone's face who is seeing modern kiting for the first time, enthralled by the feeling and visual display.
